🌿 Meet Emily
🌿 Meet Emily: The Slug Mascot of Hikers Photography
By Olivia, Founder of Hikers Photography
I added someone very special to the Hikers Photography crew—and no, she doesn’t take pictures, but she does steal the spotlight. Meet Emily, a hand-sculpted pottery slug with a big queer heart and an even bigger sense of adventure.
Made by the talented local artist Leah Rosehill, Emily isn’t just a mascot—she’s a walking (well, sliding) symbol of joy, creativity, and the beautifully weird connection between nature, art, and queer identity. You’ll find her showing up in my photos, stories, and maybe even in the mossy shadows of Vancouver Island’s wildest places.
🐌 About Emily (She/Her)
• Name: Emily
• Pronouns: She/Her
• Gender & Identity: Female, proudly queer
• Zodiac Sign (if she had one): Probably a Cancer—emotional, earthy, loyal
• Favourite Activities: Car rides with the windows down (even though she can’t roll them herself), basking in the golden-hour sun, and photo-bombing nature shots
• Personality:
• A shy but immensely lovable lesbian slug
• Gentle, empathetic, and a little goofy
• Not a fan of loud noises or early mornings unless coffee is involved
• She’s a little bashful without her handler (that’s me—Olivia), but once she feels safe, she’ll bond with just about anyone who treats her kindly and takes her out for adventures in the wild

✨ She’s a pice of pottery , But She’s Got Character
Emily might be made of clay, but she radiates something real—something soft, funny, and deeply alive. She’s a reminder that queerness can be wild and whimsical, natural and bold.
You’ll spot her nestled in moss, posing on driftwood, or basking in the sun by Comox Lake. Emily brings humor, tenderness, and a little queer sparkle wherever she goes.
Big things are coming—she’s even lobbying for her own Instagram.

🎨 Artist Spotlight: Leah Rosehill
Emily was lovingly created by Leah Rosehill, whose ceramic art channels earth, whimsy, and emotion in every curve and glaze. Leah’s pieces—slugs, mushrooms, mugs—feel like little earth spells cast in clay from Vancouver Island.
We’re grateful for Leah’s artistry and proud to bring Emily into my vision.

📸 Catch Her If You Can
Emily will be popping up in shoots all over Vancouver Island: mossy forests, rocky beaches, cozy donuts in hand. She reminds us that mascots don’t have to be masc—they can be queer, squishy, hilarious, and heartfelt.
And this is just the beginning. I’m working on an “Emily’s Adventures” series, plus sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes moments, and maybe even some surprises along the way.
